紀元前に鉄器を用いたとされるヒッタイト帝国の遺跡で日本の調査団が人工的に作られた鉄の塊を発見しました。
アナトリア考古学研究所・所長：
「鉄というのは3200年前から3300年前にあるというのが一般的だった。
それから1000年古い層から鉄が見つかりだしてきて、それが人工のものだというので、これは今までの歴史とは違うなというのが出てきた。そういう意味ですごく価値がある」

日本の調査団が紀元前2200年から2300年の地層から世界でも最も古い部類に入る人工の鉄の塊を発掘しました。

今回、見つかった鉄の塊はそれよりも約1000年前のもので、成分もこの地域の鉄鉱石とは違うことが分析で明らかになりました
鉄の塊が見つかった地層では古代中近東の様式とは違う木造建築物の遺構も見つかっていて、
調査団は、これまで考えられていたよりも前にヒッタイトとは違う民族が鉄の製造を伝えた可能性もあるとみて注目しています。

A Japanese survey team unearthed an artificial iron block from the strata of 2200-2300 BC, one of the oldest in the world.
