Ho presieduto questa mattina a Palazzo Chigi una riunione per fare il punto sui recenti gravi episodi di violenza contro le Forze dell’ordine e sui provvedimenti da adottare a garanzia della sicurezza dei cittadini e dell’ordine pubblico.

Al vertice hanno preso parte i vicepresidenti del Consiglio Antonio Tajani (in collegamento da Palermo) e Matteo Salvini, il ministro dell’Interno Matteo Piantedosi, della Difesa Guido Crosetto e della Giustizia Carlo Nordio, i sottosegretari Alfredo Mantovano e Giovanbattista Fazzolari, nonché il capo della Polizia Vittorio Pisani, il comandante generale dell’Arma dei Carabinieri Salvatore Luongo e il comandante generale della Guardia di Finanza Andrea De Gennaro.
Il Governo ribadisce il pieno sostegno alle Forze dell’ordine e, in questa delicata fase – anche alla luce delle dichiarazioni della segretaria del Partito Democratico, Elly Schlein – intendiamo rivolgere all’opposizione un appello a una stretta collaborazione istituzionale. Per questo, i capigruppo di maggioranza hanno ricevuto mandato di proporre a quelli di opposizione la presentazione di una risoluzione unitaria in tema di sicurezza, che potrebbe essere votata già questa settimana in occasione delle relazioni del ministro Matteo Piantedosi.

This morning, I chaired a meeting at Palazzo Chigi to review the recent serious incidents of violence against law enforcement officers and the measures to be taken to ensure public safety and public order.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Antonio Tajani (linked from Palermo) and Matteo Salvini, Ministers of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, Defense Guido Crosetto, Justice Carlo Nordio, Undersecretaries Alfredo Mantovano and Giovanbattista Fazzolari, as well as Police Chief Vittorio Pisani, Carabinieri General Commander Salvatore Luongo, and Guardia di Finanza General Commander Andrea De Gennaro.
The Government reiterates its full support for law enforcement officers, and at this delicate stage—also in light of the statements made by Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein—we intend to appeal to the opposition for close institutional cooperation. For this reason, the majority group leaders have been mandated to propose to the opposition the presentation of a joint resolution on security, which could be voted on as early as this week, during Minister Matteo Piantedosi’s presentations.

This morning I went to Le Molinette Hospital in Turin to express, on behalf of Italy, solidarity with two of the officers injured in yesterday’s clashes and, through them, with all the military and law enforcement officers involved.
Alessandro is 29 years old, Lorenzo is 28. Against them, hammers, Molotov cocktails, nail-filled paper bombs, stones thrown from catapults, blunt objects of all kinds, and jammers to prevent police communication. "They were there to kill us," said one officer.
Now I’ll be clear. These are not protesters. These are organized criminals. When you hit someone with a hammer, you do so knowing that the consequences can be very, very serious.
This isn’t a protest, it’s not a clash. It’s called attempted murder.
I expect the judiciary to assess these incidents for what they are, without hesitation, applying the existing rules that allow for a firm response, so that reporting those responsible doesn’t lead to anything, as has unfortunately happened too many times.
If the police had responded to the attackers, they would already be under investigation, and there would likely be some precautionary measures against them. But if we can’t defend those who defend us, the rule of law doesn’t exist.
As for the government, I have called a meeting for tomorrow morning to discuss the recent threats to public order and to evaluate the new provisions of the security decree. We will do what is necessary to restore order in this nation

Questa mattina sono stata all’ospedale Le Molinette di Torino per portare, a nome dell’Italia, la solidarietà a due degli agenti rimasti feriti negli scontri di ieri e, attraverso loro, a tutti i militari e gli appartenenti alle Forze dell’ordine coinvolti.
Alessandro ha 29 anni, Lorenzo ne ha 28. Contro di loro martelli, molotov, bombe carta ripiene di chiodi, pietre lanciate con le catapulte, oggetti contundenti di ogni genere e jammer per impedire alla polizia di comunicare. “Erano lì per farci fuori”, ha detto un agente.
Ora sarò chiara. Questi non sono manifestanti. Questi sono criminali organizzati. Quando si colpisce qualcuno a martellate, lo si fa sapendo che le conseguenze possono essere molto, molto gravi.
Non è una protesta, non sono scontri. Si chiama tentato omicidio.
Mi aspetto che la magistratura valuti questi episodi per quello che sono, senza esitazioni, applicando le norme che già ci sono e consentono di rispondere in modo fermo, perché non si ripeta che alla denuncia dei responsabili non segua nulla, come purtroppo è accaduto troppe volte.
Se i poliziotti avessero reagito agli aggressori sarebbero già iscritti nel registro degli indagati, e probabilmente ci sarebbe qualche misura cautelare a loro carico. Ma se non riusciamo a difendere chi ci difende, non esiste lo Stato di diritto.
Per quanto riguarda il Governo, ho convocato una riunione per domattina per parlare delle minacce all’ordine pubblico di questi giorni e per valutare le nuove norme del decreto sicurezza. Faremo quello che serve per ripristinare le regole in questa Nazione.
