その上、地震発生を受けて１日早めた。一般公開などの行事は全て中止された。
乗組員が艦内でおにぎり千個を作り、被害が大きい安平（あびら）町とむかわ町に陸上自衛隊のトラックで運んだ。
７日も５００個作った。
艦内の入浴施設の提供や給水、携帯電話の充電サービスのほか、医官が医療相談に応じている。掃海艇「いずしま」も入港し、同様の支援を行っている。
